Navy promotes first African American female three-star officer

Posted

The Navy made history this month by promoting the first African American female three-star officer.

Vice Admiral Michelle Howard was promoted on Friday.

Being a trailblazer in the Navy is nothing new for her.

She was the first African American woman to command a US warship, and the first African American woman to command an expeditionary strike group at sea.

She is now the deputy commander of US Fleet Forces Command.
