Sandra Hofstadler showed no emotion as she admitted to a Virginia Beach judge that she drove under the influence when she slammed into the Yancy family last January.
Prosecutors say Hofstadler was high on cocaine when she swerved past a stopped school bus that already had its lights on and arm out on Chester Street.
After that, Hofstadler crashed into David, his five-year-old son, seven-year-old daughter and seven-year-old niece, who were in their front yard waiting for the school bus.
For weeks, David and his son were in the hospital.
David had a broken leg. He still has a metal rod.
His son had a broken jaw needing metal plates. He also suffered a severe brain injury. Doctors didn't think he'd make it. Today, he's walking and talking again.
And even after going through all that, Luciana says she's forgiven the woman who nearly destroyed their lives.
NewsChannel 3 has learned that this isn't the first time Hofstadler has gotten in trouble for drugs. Court records show Hofstadler has pleaded guilty to a number of drug and alcohol charges dating back to 2003.
Hofstadler will be sentenced in December. She's facing a maximum of 12 years in jail.
