Bicyclist hit by drunk driver in Virginia Beach

Police say a bicyclist is in critical condition after being hit by a drunk driver in Virginia Beach.

On Friday, September 14, 2012, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Virginia Beach police were called to the scene of an accident involving a bicyclist in the 1400 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard.

Police found the bicyclist, and say the driver of the vehicle had left the scene before crews arrived.

According to officials, the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Virginia Beach Boulevard near the intersection of Sykes Avenue. The suspect vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, was also traveling in that direction. The bicyclist pulled into the suspect vehicle’s path of travel, and was struck from behind.

The suspect vehicle did not slow down, police say, and drove quickly away from the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.

Investigators were able to identify and locate the driver of the suspect vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Nathan Bishop Casebolt of the 100 block of 14th Street, Virginia Beach.

Bishop has been charged with Second Offense DUI, Felony Hit and Run, Maiming, and Driving without an Operator’s License. He is currently being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
