According to the Norfolk Fire Department, there was a fire in the 3100 block of Sewells Point Road in the Verizon building.

Here’s a statement from Verizon officials on the issue that affected FiOS TV local channels:

‘At approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 19, Verizon experienced the loss of local channels on the FiOS TV network in the Hampton Roads, Va., area due to a power switch equipment issue at the company’s video hub office in Norfolk.  Electricians and technical teams made repairs, and local channels were restored to FiOS TV customers at approximately 3:30 a.m. today (Sept. 20).  This issue did not affect national channels, video on demand, FiOS Widgets and other features, as well as FiOS Internet or FiOS Voice services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our FiOS customers.’

Around 10 p.m. Wednesday night, officials say smoke was showing from the second floor. Units went inside and found a large electrical fire in the FiOS switch room for the Verizon network. They say Verizon Personnel were on the scene, and they were able to secure and restore the power.

Officials say the telephone service was not affected, but FiOS Television was  experiencing problems.
