Samuel Byers, a kindergarten teacher accused of sex crimes with a student, made his first court appearance today.
Investigators say he took indecent liberties with a 14-year-old boy in 1999 and 2000 when he taught in Camden County.
Byers is currently a kindergarten teacher at Creech Road Elementary in Wake County.
He was arrested Wednesday and charged with five counts of felony indecent liberties with a minor and five counts of felony statutory sex offense with a minor.
He was appointed a public defender. His bond is set at one million dollars.
