A 40-year-old man died after his motorcycle crashed in Virginia Beach over the weekend, officials say.
On Saturday, September 22, 2012, at approximately 1:30 a.m., EMS teams received a report of a possible accident in the 800 block of Oceana Boulevard.
Police and EMS teams responded, and found a motorcycle that had veered off of the roadway to the right.
Police say the victim was traveling north on Oceana Boulevard, operating a 1990 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The vehicle then went off of the road, striking a ditch and a highway sign. The motorcycle then went through a field, and crashed into a wooden fence. The operator of the motorcycle was thrown into the open field 60 feet from the vehicle.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Bret Alan Barr of the 300 block of Lillian Avenue in Virginia Beach.
Speed, alcohol, and rider inexperience are considered factors in this crash, police say.
