Second person arrested in shooting of woman who tried to break up domestic dispute

Update: A second person has been charged in yesterday's fatal shooting. Police say 23-year-old Shakeemah Dainelle Walker has been charged with one count of Accessory After the Fact of Murder.

Hampton, Va. - Hampton police tell NewsChannel 3 a woman was shot and killed Wednesday morning in the 1st block of Barfoot Circle.

Police say Renaldo Garcia Winship is responsible for the homicide. 

It happened at 11:22 a.m. Wednesday morning. Cpl. Mary Shackelford, spokeswoman for the Hampton Police Division, says police officers responded to reports of a woman being shot. They found a woman with a gunshot wound in her side.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where she later died at 12:13 p.m.

The victim has now been identified as 35-year-old Latonya Marie Birsner.

Police say the woman was visiting a friend at a home when she saw a domestic dispute happening between Winship and the mother of his children. 

Police say the victim tried to intercede when shots were fired and she was hit. 

They say the suspect left the scene in a vehicle last seen heading toward Old Buckroe Road. There were two children inside of the home when then incident occurred and they are now being cared for by a relative. 

Winship, 24, has now been arrested and charged with one count of murder, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of burglary while armed and one count of domestic assault and battery. 

He is now in the Hampton City Jail.
