Veterans Day Closures in Hampton Roads

Suffolk

In observance of Veterans Day, Suffolk City offices will be closed Monday, November 12, 2012. Normal operations will resume Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. The city observes all state-designated holidays. Veterans Day is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all state offices are closed on that day.

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012.

All Suffolk City Libraries will be closed Monday, November 12, 2012.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Saturday, November 10 at 4 p.m. through Monday, November 12, 2012. The Gallery will reopen Tuesday, November 13 at 10 a.m.

The following Suffolk Parks & Recreation joint use recreation facilities will be closed Monday, November 12, 2012:

Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Mack Benn Jr., Northern Shores, Oakland and Kings Fork Recreation Centers.

East Suffolk Recreation Center will be closed on Monday, November 12, 2012.

Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole,
and Bennett’s Creek will remain open Monday, November 12, 2012; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

Suffolk Public Works Department will pick up trash as scheduled next week. TFC Recycling will also conduct their normal recycling collection routes. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information on refuse collection, please call Public Works at 514-7630.

The Southeastern Public Safety Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012. The Regional Landfill is closed on Monday, November 12, 2012.

Norfolk

The City of Norfolk’s government offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Monday, November 12, 2012 in observance of Veterans Day. The closure includes the offices of the Commissioner of the Revenue and the City Treasurer. Offices will reopen at normal business hours on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

Circuit Court, General District Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will also be closed on Monday, November 12, 2012.

All Recreation, Parks & Open Space facilities will be closed Monday, November 12, 2012, but Norfolk’s cemeteries will be open for Veteran’s Day events and to allow residents to honor our nation’s veterans. Norfolk cemeteries staff will be on call to assist residents as needed. Libraries will be closed on Sunday, November 11 and Monday, November 12, 2012.

No garbage or recycling collection is scheduled for Monday, November 12, 2012 and The Division of Waste Management’s administrative offices will be closed. All requests for bulk waste pickup on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 must be called in or submitted on the internet at http://www.norfolk.gov/publicworks/WM/bulkwaste_form.asp no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012.

Additionally, the e-waste and household hazardous waste collection facilities will be closed, Monday, November 12, 2012 and will open as scheduled on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

The Division of Towing and Recovery, located at 1195A Lance Road, is open 24 hours and will be remain open on Monday, November 12, 2012. Electronic waste and paper for shredding can be dropped-off at the towing division.

Hampton

City Offices – Closed Monday, November 12 in observance of Veterans Day.

Garbage Collection – No recycling, refuse, bulk trash or yard waste collection Monday, Nov. 12. Monday’s collection will be made Wednesday, Nov.14.

Landfill – (N. Park Ln & Big Bethel Rd.) Open Monday, Nov. 12

Yard Waste Site – (Adjacent to N. Park Lane) Closed Monday, Nov. 12

Street Sweeping – No street sweeping on Monday, Nov. 12. Makeup day is Friday, Nov. 16.
