Update: Body found inside Virginia Beach home after fire

Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) – A body was found inside of a home after a fire in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach on Sunday.

On Sunday, November 18, 2012 at approximately 2:15 a.m., emergency teams received a report of a house fire in the 1600 block of Nanney’s Creek Road. Police say the homeowner awoke to find her bedroom engulfed in flames. She managed to escape through a window, and ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

Fire crews arrived on scene, and while controlling the fire, located a body lying on the floor in the hallway of the home.

The body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of death, police say.

Police are asking for anyone with information about this crime to call the Virginia Beach Crime Solvers Office at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or text VBTIP with your information to CRIMES (274637). Callers and texters remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest.

This case remains under investigation.
