Virginia Beach, Va. – A mother is charged with abusing her 9-year-old son, Virginia Beach police tell NewsChannel 3.
On Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Virginia Beach Emergency Communications received a report of a possible case of child abuse.
Police say the victim was not at his assigned bus stop and was found by the bus driver wandering a few blocks away. The 9-year-old victim was taken to school and walked inside by the driver. The driver and a staff member then noticed marks on the victim’s neck. The staff member then contacted the police after the child reported the suspect, his mother, had abused him earlier in the morning.
Police say the 9-year-old victim reported he was burned by his mother and had visible burns on him. A faculty member from the school transported the child to a local hospital. Officials say the suspect, the victim’s mother, had poured scalding hot water on the child. Detectives responded to the residence and located the suspect. The child remains in a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The suspect is identified as 38-year-old Aliyah Ife Washington, of the 400 block of Lisa Square, in Virginia Beach. She has been charged with Felony Child Abuse and is currently being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
