The city of Portsmouth has just announced they have voted to appoint John L. Rowe, Jr.  as the city manager on an interim basis.

The city says they will determine whether to make the appointment permanent or to conduct a search for a permanent city manager at a later time.

His annual salary will be $150, 000 plus a $600 per month car allowance.

Brannon Godfrey has been serving as the acting city manager since Kenneth Chandler resigned. Godfrey will now return to his position as deputy city manager.

Chandler was forced to resign following a scandal involving his handling of the resignation of the former fire chief.
