Man wanted in attempted armed burglary of Beach home

Virginia Beach, Va. – Police need help finding a suspect wanted in connection to an attempted armed burglary.

Virginia Beach police say the incident happened on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 4:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Queen Mary Court.

They say 23-year-old Steven Joseph Hirko is wanted for Felony Illegal Use of Gases (Oleoresin Capsicum); Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling; Use of a Firearm in a Commission of a Felony; Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony; and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.

Police say Hirko, along with three other suspects, attempted to break into the home, and when they failed, began shooting into the house. As shots were being fired, a chemical agent was released into the home.

The victims were not injured during the incident, and police say the suspects ran away from the scene.

The three other suspects in this case have been arrested.

Hirko is described a white male, 5’ 7, and 150 pounds; brown eyes and brown hair. Hirko has a tattoo on his left hand that reads, “LIFE”, “HIRKO” on his right arm; and “STEVEN” is written on his left arm.

Hirko frequents the Cardinal Estates area of Virginia Beach, police tell NewsChannel 3.
