Newport News, Va. - After more than a year of eluding capture, Newport News police say they have arrested the man they believe to be the 'Fake Beard Bandit'.

Ronald Wayne Carr was taken into custody by Newport News police yesterday. This picture of him is from the State Sex Offender Registry from previous charges he faced.

Carr has been wanted since last November for robbing over two dozen stores at gunpoint in Newport News, Hampton and York County.

His signature in every robbery, according to police, was the fake facial hair, that changed each time he robbed.

Newport News, Hampton and York County Officials are set to hold a meeting on the arrest on Friday around 1 p.m.
