Police identify motorcyclist killed in crash with tractor trailer in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – Police have identified the motorcyclist who was killed as a result of a crash with a tractor trailer this morning in Newport News. 

Police have identified the victim as 25-year-old Robert Francis Miner, III of the 300 block of Bridgewater Drive in Newport News.

The call came in at 6:15 a.m. Newport News emergency crews responded to reports of a motorcycle accident involving a tractor trailer. It happened at Enterprise Drive and Warwick Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old Newport News man unconscious in the middle of the intersection, along with his motorcycle.

Witnesses say a tractor trailer was traveling northbound on Warwick Boulevard and made a left turn on to Enterprise Drive. The 2000 Honda motorcycle was traveling southbound on Warwick, and as the motorcycle entered the intersection, the motorcycle struck the rear end of the tractor trailer.

The driver of the tractor trailer was unaware of the collision.  The driver of the motorcycle was transported by medics to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He died at the hospital.

Police located the tractor trailer in the Oakland Industrial Park. There are no charges at this time and the investigation is still ongoing. They say the crash reconstruction team is investigating the accident.
