A day later, and smoke continued to smolder in what remains of the 7-C`s Condos in Kill Devil Hills.
Just after 7 Thursday night, three roommates living at the condo heard a smoke detector blaring.

They all made it out safely and then stood across the street watching in horror as the condos burned down.
It took more than 50 firefighters several hours to knock down the blaze that initially had flames 8 stories high.
By mid-day Friday, an excavator arrived to begin going through the rubble
The Kill Devil Hills Fire Chief says when you look at all the debris and how quickly this massive fire burned, it is simply a miracle to know everyone escaped safely.
