Beach man facing several charges after allegedly driving drunk, hitting police car

Zachary W. Gauthier, a 28-year-old Beach man, is facing several charges after being accused of driving drunk and hitting a marked police vehicle over the weekend. 

Police say dispatchers received a call from a citizen who reported observing a vehicle driving reckless toward Princess Anne Road from I-264/ Independence Area at around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 13. 

They say the caller told dispatchers they saw the driver speeding and disregarding traffic signals. 

Police say Gauthier hit the bumper of an occupied marked vehicle. 

The vehicle was stopped and Gauthier was taken into custody in the 4400 block of John Jay Lane/500 block of Schuyler Road.

He has been charged with DWI, DWI refusal, eluding police, hit and run, signal light violation, fail to keep right, drive on sidewalk, seat belt required and operate and uninsured vehicle. 

He is now being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
