Portsmouth, Va. – A 64-year-old Portsmouth man captured a 15-year-old at gunpoint Wednesday night after the teen and another person broke into his home on Belle Street.

Police received a call from the man at approximately 7:45 pm informing them he was holding the teen at gunpoint.

According to police, the teen and another juvenile had gone to the home and rang the door bell. The man did not answer the door, but instead went to the backyard where he heard noises.

He found his shed door and a kitchen window open and returned inside where he confronted one of the teens hiding behind a television and fired his gun several times, missing the teen.

He then ordered the teen to lie on the floor until police arrived and surrendered his gun to the officers.

The second teen fled through a bedroom window.

The detained 15 year-old was charged with burglary and was later turned over to the Chesapeake Juvenile Detention Center, pending a court appearance.  His identity will not be released due to his age.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.  Additional charges are pending against the juvenile suspects.

No charges were filed against the victim.
