Raccoon tests positive for rabies in Newport News neighborhood

Newport News, Va.–The Peninsula Health District says a raccoon has tested positive for the rabies virus in the Roberto Drive and Hampton Roads Center Parkway area.

If you’ve been exposed to this animal, you’re asked to contact the Health Department  at 757-594-7340.

Neighbors will be contacted by the local office of Environmental Health Services about this incident.

The district is advising citizens to vaccinate their pets, report all exposures to animals to a doctor or the local health department, and to enjoy wildlife from a distance.
