Update: Crews have now re-opened the ramp.
Norfolk, Va.–Crews closed the truck ramp from Hampton Blvd. to Brambleton Ave. at the Midtown Tunnel for soil investigation.
Crews say they detected movement of the soil in the embankment and they closed the road for safety purposes.
Geotechnical drilling and grouting operations to stabilize the embankment were completed earlier this week. A field inspection of the soil by geotechnical and design engineers has confirmed that the roadway is safe for vehicular traffic officials say.
A signed detour was in place for drivers. The city lifted truck restrictions to Redgate and Claremont Avenues to allow heavy vehicles through.
