Police say man robbed Family Dollar at knife point

Newport News, Va. -  Police say a man robbed a Family Dollar store at knife point, then ran away from the store Monday morning.

It happened at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013. Officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Family Dollar located at 6000 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.

Clerks say an unknown man with a 'patchy' beard, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with the hood down, entered the store, displayed a knife, and demanded cash.

The clerk gave the suspect the cash from the register.  The man ran away from the store   through the Riverlands Apartment Complex, towards Marshall Avenue.

Police say no one was injured, and no customers were in the store at the time of the robbery.
