Virginia Beach, Va. - A man who barricaded himself inside a Virginia Beach home Monday evening is now in custody.
He is identified as 52-year-old Fredrick Richard Slatter of the 500 block of Summer Lake Lane in Virginia Beach.
Slatter is charged with assault and battery of a family member and brandishing a firearm. He remains in jail without bond.
Police say they received a domestic related call just after 7 p.m. Monday night at a house in the 500 block of Summer Lake Lane.
Officers on scene said family members from the house made it out of the house safely, but the 52-year-old remained inside the house, broke out several windows, and barricaded himself in the home.
Members of the Virginia Beach SWAT team were called to the scene as well.
One of the first officers on the scene saw Slatter using a rifle to break out a window of the home. They say he pointed the gun toward them and the officer fired toward Slatter.
No one was injured.
We're told just after 9 p.m. Slatter surrendered and was taken into custody.
The officer involved has now been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation. Police say this is standard in all officer-involved shootings.
