Beach police will host a fraud and identity theft forum

Citi: Millions stolen in May hack attackVirginia Beach, Va. – Have you or anyone you know ever had personal information compromised or stolen?

Have you ever received a check in the mail saying you’ve won money? Have you ever received an email from someone asking you to help them get their money out of a war torn nation? Did you know you can check your credit report for free?

Your questions will be answered during an upcoming financial forum in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Economic Crimes and Crime Prevention Units are hosting free Fraud and Identity Theft Forums on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Meyera C. Oberndorf Central Library Auditorium, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd. and Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 9:00-11:30 a.m. in the Pungo Building Theatre, Tidewater Community College, Virginia Beach Campus, 1800 College Crescent.

Detectives from the Economic Crimes Unit will be on hand to discuss topics that will include: identity theft, internet fraud, fraudulent use of credit cards, debit cards and currency, as well as and telephone scams.
