Newport News, Va. - From running for office to being locked in a prison cell, 41-year-old Glenn McGuire will spend the next 15 years behind bars for downloading thousands of images of child porn.

Elizabeth Coatney is McGuire’s ex-mother-in-law. Her home is right down the street from where McGuire and his three kids used to live.

"I was in shock,” she says. “I didn't believe that anything like that would ever happen."

McGuire, who was the 2011 Libertarian candidate for the 95th district delegate, pleaded guilty after FBI agents found the porn at his Newport News home in February. But it was actually McGuire’s neighbors that the FBI first targeted.

Along with his stint in politics, on his candidate page, McGuire says he used to be in the Navy.

He worked for Cox Communications and would set up neighbors’ internet.

Because McGuire shared an internet router with one neighbor, FBI agents believed the neighbor's computer may be linked to the child pornography investigation.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to that neighbor who says FBI agents came to their door and took all their computers searching for the child porn.

When none was found, agents turned their focus on McGuire’s home where they found more than 6,000 images of child pornography.

"I know he's done something really, really bad, but in my heart I will pray for him every day,” Coatney says.

On top of his prison term, McGuire will have a lifetime of supervision by a probation officer.
