Virginia Beach, Va. – A man has been arrested for the robbery of a Virginia Beach Dollar General store, police tell NewsChannel 3.
On Wednesday, May 8 at 10:40 p.m., Beach Emergency Communications received a call for a robbery at the Dollar General, located at 5013 Virginia Beach Boulevard.
The victims said that while leaving the building at closing time, they were approached by a male suspect who forced them to re-enter the business and demanded money while displaying a handgun.
The victims, employees of the business, complied and the suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money, police say.
The suspect was seen running from the business.
An officer was driving by the store at the same time that Emergency Communications broadcast the robbery. The officer spotted a suspect nearby fitting the description, and stopped the suspect.
The suspect is identified as 22-year-old Rodney Renaldo-William Lester Jr., of the 5700 block of West Hastings Arch in Virginia Beach.
Rodney Renaldo-William Lester Jr. is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction, two counts of use of a firearm, wearing a mask in public, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lester is currently being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
This case remains under investigation.
