Suffolk, Va. – The Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire and Rescue team responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident where one person died, officials tell NewsChannel 3.
It happened on Route 460/Pruden Boulevard near the Suffolk and Isle of Wight County line. The call was received by dispatchers at 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.
Crews arrived on scene, and confirmed one fatality. A second victim was also trapped inside a vehicle.
The victim was extricated and was flown by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, officials say. The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
A third person was ground transported by Windsor Volunteer Rescue to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with unknown injuries.
Preliminary information from investigators suggests the first vehicle was traveling westbound and ran off the road, striking a work truck which was parked off the road, causing the work truck to roll.
One lane westbound and two lanes eastbound are now open, but this could change based on the ongoing investigation, officials say.
The identity of the deceased person will be provided pending notification of next of kin.
