Virginia Beach, Va. - Two people were shot overnight outside of a Virginia Beach restaurant and night club. Now, police are looking for the person who pulled the trigger.
The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning at the Bayside Inn on Pleasure House Road. That's just off of Shore Drive. The Bayside Inn was hosting a music competition night at their business, police say, until closing at 2 a.m. At the time, there appeared to be approximately 70 people at the club.
Police say a person walked up to a group of people standing outside and asked about what band was playing. They say the person walked away. That's when police say he started shooting.
Officers say two men were shot.
The first victim, a 23-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but did require surgery.
The second victim, a 30-year-old man, responded to a hospital on his own.
Cess Beats says he's been holding the talent exposure events at the Bayside Inn every other Wednesday for the last few months without any problems.
"We was doing so good. We had women that came out to sing, guys that came out to sing. Like I said, we had bands," he says.
Even a business owner in the same shopping center agrees that it's a quiet area.
"There's been a couple times where there were a couple rap bands, I guess. There were no problems at all," business owner U Nguyen says.
Cess Beats says even though they had a larger than normal crowed on Wednesday night, he doesn't think the shooting had anything to do with the event itself.
But he says what happened was enough to put an end to what he thought was a great event.
"Now it's different. They're shutting me down," he says.
Police are still searching for the suspect. He is described as a light skinned black male in his 20s.
