Newport News, Va. - A 13-year-old teen was killed and a 17-year-old wounded in a double shooting outside the Quick Save Mini Mart on Chestnut Ave. last night.
The shooting happened shortly before 11pm. Police say the 17-year-old was found outside the Mini Mart with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body. He remains in serious condition.
13-year-old Lutrell Kittles of the 1200 block of 22nd Street was also shot outside the Mini Mart and was found at 25th Street and Oak Ave. He was pronounced dead 11:43 PM.
"Regardless of how old you are or how young you are, no parent wants to bury their child," says the Kittles' family minister, Dr. Ricardo Donato.
People who live near the Mini Mart say teenagers hang out outside the store late at night.
"There are so many young guys hanging over there. And they know they're up to no good when they're hanging in front of the store. It's not even safe to walk to the store sometimes. That's why I'd rather walk in the daytime than at night so I can see what's going on because you never know what's going to happen at nighttime," says a neighbor.
There is no suspect information at this point in the investigation.
