HOUSTON (CNN) — Four Houston firefighters have died from injuries suffered while battling a major blaze Friday at a hotel and restaurant in the Texas city, mayor’s office spokeswoman Janice Evans said.
Five other firefighters are being treated at local hospitals, she added.
In addition to those casualties, a number of other people were killed and injured in the fire, Evans said.
Houston Fire Capt. Ruy Lozano told CNN affiliate KTRK that the five-alarm fire at a Southwest Inn spread to the Bhojan restaurant.
More than 150 firefighters responded to the blaze, Lozano said.
