Tonight was a beautiful night for baseball at the Bud Metheny baseball complex on Old Dominion University’s campus.
The Knights of Kellam took to the mound against the Hanover Hawks in the quarter finals of the state championship. Hanover pitcher Thomas Renfro would be on his A game tonight keeping the knights from getting on the bases.
It would be the Hawks who would get things started early in the game as Cayman Richardson would hit a double to deep right and then right after that Hanover’s Johnny Gregory would hit a hopper straight through the infield sending Richardson home and giving the Hawks the lead 1 to 0.
Kellam Pitcher Sam Sinnen would get some good pitches in as well, but the Hanover dominance would continue, as Brett Whitlow would get a single barely beating out the Kellam Defense.
Then Josh Shepherd would send one down the third base line, bringing home two of his teammates. Kellam’s pitcher would then walk Jeff Decker after hitting him in the shoulder with the ball.
At the end of four innings Hanover lead the Knights 4 to 0 and they would go on to knock the Kellam Knights out of the state tournament with a final score of 21 to 4. The Hawks of hanover will take to mound again Friday against Oakton at 7 p.m.
