Man leads Norfolk police on chase with boy in car, crashes into pole

Norfolk, Va.- A man is now in custody after police say he led them on a chase in Norfolk on Friday night and crashed into a pole as they tried to conduct a traffic stop. A boy was also in the car.

Jerome  W. Hodges of Portsmouth has been charged with abuse and neglect of children, hit and run/unattended vehicle, driving with a suspended/revoked license and eluding police.

Police say the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

Police say Hodges would not stop when they tried initiate a traffic stop at Delaware and Maryland Streets. He allegedly ended up crashing into a pole at Church Street and Goff.

Police say Hodges then got out of the car and ran from them but he was caught shortly afterward.

The boy is now with his mother. It is unknown if the child is related to Hodge.

Hodge will appear in court again on Tuesday.
