Fundraiser held for injured Norfolk police officer

Norfolk, Va. - People in Norfolk are taking action to help a police officer who was seriously injured in April.

A benefit concert for Officer Curtis Allison was held at the Lido Inn Sunday afternoon.

Allison was hurt when another car collided with his cruiser.

Both people in that car died.

The event's organizers say Allison could be out of work for six months or more - so they wanted to do something to help.

"We're looking to give every penny we can to help this family through this tough time, because he is a local hero, and we appreciate him more than anything and his family and his sacrifice," says Mary Gowans, event organizer.

Numerous businesses donated items to auction off - and the bands donated their time so that all of the money raised can go to the officer.
