Virginia Natural Gas units have now secured a gas leak near Norfolk State University, crews tell NewsChannel 3.
Brambleton Avenue westbound from the foot of the Campostella Bridge to Park Avenue was shut down Monday afternoon due to a gas line rupture.
Authorities say a contractor cut into the gas line while doing maintenance, causing a significant rupture.
Fire crews as well as Virginia Natural Gas crews responded to the scene to fix the line.
In addition to the closure on Brambleton, VDOT says the I-264 off-ramp to Brambleton was closed temporarily while repairs were made.
