Man arrested in Beach ice cream shop burglary

Virginia Beach, Va. – A Toano man has been arrested in an ice cream shop burglary that happened over the weekend, police tell NewsChannel 3.

On Sunday, June 9, 2013, at 9:30 a.m., police say the manager of Kohr Brothers Ice Cream, located at 1704 Atlantic Avenue, arrived at the business and discovered it had been burglarized overnight.

The suspect gained entry through a second floor access door, police say, and caused extensive damage to the business.

There was damage to several light fixtures, ceiling tiles, and drywall. There was also damage to the ice cream machines.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and shows the suspect was inside the store for several hours. Through the investigation, police were able to identify the suspect; the suspect turned himself into police.

The suspect is identified as 21-year-old Scott Joseph Kunze of the 3100 block of Bent Tree Lane in Toano, Virginia. He is charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Felony Destruction of Property.

Kunze is currently being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

This case remains under investigation.
