58 fugitives arrested in Peninsula roundup

Chesapeake, Va. – Fifty-eight fugitives wanted in multiple jurisdictions across the Peninsula are now in police custody following Operation Street Sweeper 2013, according to Virginia State Police.

Virginia State Police in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement conducted the three-day arrest roundup June 18, 2013, through June 20, 2013.

The 58 fugitive arrests yielded a total 21 felonies and 59 misdemeanor charges. Here is a breakdown:

June 18, 2013: 17 arrested in Hampton

June 19, 2013: 15 arrested in Newport News

June 20, 2013: 26 arrested in Williamsburg, Poquoson, and York and James City counties

All arrests were made without incident, police say.

The Hampton Police Department, James City County Police Department, Newport News Police Department, Poquoson Police Department, Williamsburg Police Department, York County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service, Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office all participated in the operation.
