Portsmouth, Va. – In conjunction with scheduled overnight maintenance work westbound in the I-264 Downtown Tunnel overnight Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27, Elizabeth River Tunnels construction crews will also perform required preparatory work for the upcoming tunnel rehabilitation.
Work crews will be dressed in full personal protective equipment, including Tyvek suits and respirators, officials say. The work poses no health risk to motorists and the tunnel will remain safe for travel.
Starting Wednesday, June 26, at 10 p.m. through Thursday, June 27, at 5 a.m., and again on Thursday, June 27, at 10 p.m. until Friday, June 28, at 5 a.m., one lane of the westbound Downtown Tunnel will be closed. Motorists can expect minor delays.
