The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was found hanging in her cell from a bed sheet on Tuesday afternoon.
Whitney Lynn Edwards was found at 3:34 p.m. Staff immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived on scene.
Edwards was pronounced dead at the Correctional Center at 3:49 p.m.
The Chesapeake Police Department is conducting an investigation into the death. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation.
