UPDATE: Dominion restored power to all of the customers affected by the Maltby Avenue apartment fire at 10:47 a.m., except the four customers who live in the building at 2500 Maltby Avenue, according to Dominion Virginia Power spokesperson Bonita Harris.

Norfolk, Va. – Crews responded to an apartment fire on Maltby Avenue in Norfolk on Friday morning.

Residents in that building and within a block of the building are without power; click here for a complete outage map from Virginia Dominion Power. Dominion Virginia Power says preliminary assessment shows that equipment failure led to wire falling, which caused a power surge.  The outages did not happen as a result of heat or air conditioners, officials say.

About 395 customers are still without power, and Dominion officials say the estimated time of restoration will be 11 a.m.

The fire has now been extinguished. No one was injured during this incident.

Officials say several people may now be without a home. There’s no word yet on how many people have been affected.

The fire is still under investigation.
