Another honor for one of our People Taking Action recipients.
A few months ago, NewsChannel 3 honored the owners of United Auto Wholesalers in Virginia Beach for how they took action for Mariah Smith and her charity "Blankets for the Homeless."
The van she and her mom use to hand out donations to the homeless needed repairs.
United Auto Wholesalers fixed their van for free and agreed to make future repairs at no cost.
That story caught the attention of the largest Sons of Italy lodge in Virginia -- Roma Lodge 254 in Virginia Beach.
On Friday, the group presented Sal Faraci with a special award which recognizes individuals who bring honor to the Italian community.
Friday's honor, the Fiorello H. LaGuardia Award, is one of Roma Lodge's highest awards.
"I'm humbled. I just did what I do all the time," Sal says.
Sal and his partner are now collecting clothes and blankets for Mariah's charity.
