Franklin Police are searching for a suspect who tried to rob several grocery stores on Friday afternoon and may be connected to several other robberies in Portsmouth and Suffolk.

Police say the man entered a Food Lion at 1328 Armory Drive and approached a cashier with a drink and a bag of chips.

When the cashier rang up the items and opened the cash register, the man demanded money. The cashier became frightened and backed away, and the man left without any money.

The man then went to Farm Fresh at 1459 Armory Drive and used the same technique to attempt to rob the store. When a second employee approached the cash register, the man again left without any money.

The man is described as a black male, 5’ 9” to 6’, approximately 180 to 200 pounds, with close cut hair, and no facial hair.

Franklin Police are working with authorities in Suffolk and Portsmouth who have had similar robberies by a suspect matching the same description. If anyone has information about the suspect it is requested that you call Franklin Crime Solvers at 757-562-8599.
