Newport News, Va. – The VDOT bridge maintenance crews have scheduled a closure of the southbound right lane at the Route 17 James River Bridge on Wednesday, July 31, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Test lifts are also planned for the late morning and early afternoon hours, with each lift expected to last approximately 20 minutes.
The lane closure and test lifts are necessary as part of routine maintenance. After each test opening, crews will reopen the bridge to traffic to allow the queue to clear. The southbound lane will reopen to traffic by 3 p.m., and no test lifts are scheduled to occur during peak travel times.
