Man wanted in Chesapeake police pursuit

Chesapeake, Va. – Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after an attempted traffic stop in Chesapeake.

It happened on Thursday, August 1 at 10:10 a.m. An officer initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation at Airline Blvd. and Ahoy Dr. The driver refused to stop. The police officer pursued the suspect into the city of Portsmouth. The driver then stopped the vehicle in the 600 block of Lancer Ct. and ran away.

The suspect went into and came out of two different apartments in the area, police say. He then got into a second vehicle with a person known to him and drove away.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Andre Powell of the 100 block of Erin Dr. in Suffolk.

Powell is wanted for multiple traffic violations: Eluding Police, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. Further charges are pending.
