Update: Brandon Xavier Coles has been arrested for the homicide that occurred on Milford Avenue.
Police say a Crime Line tip led them to Coles. He was arrested on West Avenue in Newport News.
Hampton Police are asking for the public’s assistance locating a 20-year-old Newport News man who they believe was involved in a homicide that occurred on July 27th.
Around 1:30 a.m. that morning, Hampton Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Milford Avenue.
They arrived and found 25-year-old Michael Lovelace suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He died at the scene.
An investigation revealed that the 20-year-old suspect, Brandon Xavier Coles, and Lovelace got into a verbal altercation which escalated and led to the victim being shot.
Coles He currently has warrants on file for one count of Murder, one count of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
