The Newport News Police Tactical Operations Unit responded to the Magnuson Hotel at 1000 Omni Boulevard Thursday afternoon.
Police responded to the hotel around 1:00 p.m. after hearing reports of a disorderly man destroying property in a room on the third floor.
The man refused to come out of the room and barricaded himself inside. He has refused any further contact.
Tactical response was called because supervisors did not know the man’s intentions or if he was armed.
The man was taken into custody a short time later. There were no known injuries.
