Ivor – Beginning Thursday, August 15, 2013, crews with Norfolk Southern (NS) will close Route 616 (Main Street) at Route 622 (New Road) to perform track maintenance.

All lanes will reopen late in the afternoon on Friday, August 16. The closure is necessary to allow NS to replace the railway’s double track, railroad ties, and to repave the crossing. This work is dependent upon weather conditions.

Local Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will assist with the detour as needed. The detour will be as follows:

• Passenger vehicles heading north will take Route 622 (New Road), in the Town of Ivor, to where it intersects Route 635 (Tucker Swamp Road). Motorists will then turn left onto Route 635 and follow it to Route 460 (General Mahone Boulevard). Upon turning left on to Route 460 motorists will travel approximately 2.2 miles to the intersection of Route 616 (Main Street).

• Truck traffic will take Route 35 from Courtland approximately three miles and turn right on Route 628 (Wakefield Road) then follow Route 628 approximately 15 miles to the intersection of Route 460 (General Mahone Boulevard). At the intersection motorists will turn right and follow Route 460 east to the Town of Ivor, approximately six miles. If headed to Petersburg, make a left onto Route 460 west.
