Man wanted for robbing Portsmouth jewelry store

Portsmouth Police are looking for a man who robbed a jewelry store on August 1st.

Police say the larceny occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. at the Gem Store, Jewelry Box at 3403 Tyre Neck Road.

According to reports, an employee was approached by a man inside the business. The man asked to look at several items inside an enclosed cabinet.

As the employee was showing the items, the telephone rang. When the employee went to answer it, the man grabbed several pieces of gold jewelry and ran.

Surveillance cameras caught the man’s arrival at the business. He was the rear passenger in a maroon or burgundy vehicle (possible a Nissan Maxima.)

The man is seen getting out of the vehicle, walking into the business, and running out of the business after taking the items. He gets back into the vehicle and leaves.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 17 and 21. He was wearing a tan, jungle-style hat, tan shorts and a dark shirt.
