Suffolk, Va. – Police responded to an accident overnight involving an 18-wheeler and an SUV on Route 460, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 3:45 a.m. One lane of eastbound Pruden Boulevard/Route 460 is still closed in the 4100 block near the Pruden Center after a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a Jeep SUV.

The Jeep SUV had run out of gas and was stopped in the roadway where it was struck by the tractor trailer, officials say. The driver of the Jeep was not in the vehicle at the time, and the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The tractor trailer came to rest in the ditch adjacent to the roadway and a clean-up crew and wrecker responded to the scene.

The roadway is expected to reopen Thursday morning.

The driver of the Jeep, Garlando Lowe of Suffolk, has been charged with Improper Stopping on the Roadway and Driving on a Suspended License.
