Norfolk Police are investigating a robbery reported around 1:00 a.m. Monday morning near the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
"I was shocked. You live on campus and you see the cops come around all the time and you think it's safe, but obviously not safe enough," one student said.
According to the school, six students were walking near 42nd Street and Powhatan Avenue when they were approached by four black males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
"It makes you think.. should I go out or should I stay in the house? Or should I hop in a car instead of walking? It's an eye-opener," said another student.
Each student had their wallets and iPhones taken before the suspects fled north on foot towards campus.
The students were not injured during the robbery.
The suspects are described as:
1. Black Male, light skin, dreadlocks, approximately 5-10 in height.
2. Black Male, light skin, dreadlocks, approximately 5-10, last scene wearing a tank top, jeans.
3. Black Male, dark skin, with short hair.
4. Black Male, no further description is available.
"I don't really remember anything really bad happening last year, and this is the beginning of the semester so it's scary," said a student.
The Old Dominion University Police Department has increased patrols in the areas bordering the campus. The ODU police investigators are working with Norfolk Police to follow all available leads.
