2-year-old boy hit by car in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Va. - A 2-year-old boy riding a bicycle has been transported to the hospital after being hit by a car in Portsmouth, officials tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened at 1:54 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013. The 2-year-old boy was riding a bicycle with a guardian in the 2300 block of Victory Boulevard in the Victory Village Apartment Complex, when he was struck by a car.

Witnesses say they saw the child on the sidewalk afterwards, crying, and suffering from what appeared to be an arm injury. Witnesses say it appeared the front wheel of his bike was damaged.

Witnesses tell NewsChannel 3 a woman struck the young boy, and was unable to get out of the vehicle after he was struck.

The child was transported to the hospital, and the extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

Police say the child's guardian who was with him at the time of the incident, as well as the driver who struck the child, will both face charges.
