Man charged in connection to shooting in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Va. – Police say they have now charged a man in connection to a shooting that occurred on September 25th on Des Moines Avenue in Portsmouth.

A 30-year-old man was taken to the hospital after police say he was shot in the lower part of his body.

Police arrested and charged 37-year-old Elsworth Copeland, III.

They’ve charged Copeland with several felonies including aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempt to commit a non capital offense.

Copeland is now in the custody of the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office.
