Dog rescued from burning home in Norfolk

Norfolk, Va. - Crews responded to a house fire in the 800 block of B Avenue in Norfolk on Wednesday morning.

According to Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with the Norfolk Fire Department, the call came in at 10:54 a.m.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found a two story residence with smoke showing from the second floor.

Crews entered the building, and found the fire on the second floor.

No one was home at the time, but six people have been displaced - one adult and five children. The Red Cross is providing assistance.

One dog was removed from the home by Norfolk Fire and Rescue.

The fire has been deemed under control. Officials say there was a smoke alarm inside the home, but it was not working.

No injuries have been reported.
